For Canadian birders, February in the Rio Grande Valley is all the excuse needed to break out the shorts and sandals. Buff-bellied hummers, Golden-fronted woodpeckers, Couch’s Kingbirds, Groove-billed Anis, Plain Chachalacas, Harris Hawks, Black-bellied Whistling Ducks, Common and Lesser Nighthawks, and Pauraques are common residents at Casa Santa Ana, along with many other area specialties. They often can be ticked while sitting in the yard, as these four are doing. Sorry guys, no Snow Buntings.
