FROM THE BLIND:  Austin photographer Steve Baranoff in the photography blind at the feeding station.  The four pictures that follow were taken by Steve from the blind, except for the Pauraque, which was taken under artificial light during a night bird safari—a common adventure at CSA. COOPER’S HAWK:  One of the bird-hunting accipiters, this fiercely handsome raptor developed a controversial habit at the feeding station.  He hung out most days in the surrounding Mesquites, where he made frequent—and sometimes successful—runs at the feeding doves, Kiskadees, jays and other customers.  Despite the dense trees and brush, he was able to thread his way through the tightest of openings at warp speed. By the way, “he” actually is probably a “she.”
